PHILADELPHIA PA – This summer, F.A.N. Gallery presents an exhibition of new oil paintings by artist Kate Kern Mundie. Kate Kern Mundie: New Paintings features more than thirty new works: from rural and urban landscapes in and around Philadelphia and Ireland, to intimate interiors. . The images focus on the dramatic light on a landscape or the controlled light in an indoor setting.

The exhibition begins June 3rd and continues through June 25th, 2011. An opening reception will take place during First Friday on June 3rd from 5:00 to 9:00 PM. Both the exhibition and the receptions are free and open to the public. F.A.N. Gallery is located at 221 Arch Street in Philadelphia PA. For exhibition hours and information, please visit

Kate Kern Mundie's paintings, which glow with both intense color and bold brushstrokes, are the result of daily observations and recent travel. Mundie’s paintings often depict moments of beauty in urban streets, rural landscape, or secluded interiors. “I am grasping at visual moments, trying to slow down and observe light, color, and texture just for the pure joy of being in that moment,” Mundie says. “I have been frustrated by how busy and disjointed my day-to-day life has become. Between work and raising children I often feel that I am being pulled in ten directions at once. However, painting requires me to stop and focus on one thing: to examine a scene and take it all in. These paintings become beautiful islands of tranquility in an otherwise frantic world.” While Kate Kern Mundie’s paintings are reminiscent of the famed Ashcan School, she offers a fresh interpretation and a slightly more romantic expression.

In describing the appeal of Ms. Mundie's work, Fraidoon Al-Nakib, founder and owner of F.A.N. Gallery, says, “The vibrant color harmonies and juicy surfaces in Kate Mundie's paintings are a feast for my eyes, inspire my mind, and move my spirit.”Andrew Mangravite of the Broad Street Review wrote, “It’s flat-out honest landscape art without apologies.”
