Bartram's Garden: Bald Cyprus
oil on museum board, 8.5 x 11 inches, 2007
Private collection
Bartram’s Garden gets many visitors, many of them tourists.
While I was painting, a group of botany enthusiasts from some southern state became very excited about the bald cyprus that
sits in the right side of this painting. They examined its bark and leaves, and were thrilled
about its circumference. As I painted, I heard drawling squeals of delight as one of the tree groupies
read about the tree's lineage from the tin tag hanging from the bark.
