Among the many interesting specimens I saw on my visit to the depot of the Universiteitsmuseum Groningen was No. 46, whose label bore the following inscription:
Iniëncephalus – oode benaming: uranoscopus (hemelkijer)
In Dutch, hemelkijer means ‘stargazer’, which is a rather poetic name for this condition. Had this foetus lived and were able to stand upright, its face would forever point to the heavens.
