Here we have documentation of a forgotten zeppelin accident from the perilous days of early trans-Atlantic aviation.
This drawing was created for Dear Fleisher: 4 x 6 Inches of Art,
the second biennial invitational exhibition and sale of original postcard-sized art. More than 300 emerging and nationally prominent artists submitted works that were presented anonymously and sold for $50 each.
The seller didn't know the identity of the artist until the purchase was complete, forcing the buyer to focus on the merits of the work rather than the name. All the proceeds will go to support the Fleisher
Art Memorial's education and exhibition programs.
The drawing was executed with a Pigma Micron® .005 pen on a 4 x 6 inch (102 x 152 mm) block of Lana®
300-weight watercolor paper. I first scanned and saved the black and white version (below), then added washes of sepia ink to make it feel more like an old photograph of an actual event.
I was rather pleased with how this came together and plan to do a series of small pieces along this theme.
