Stairway oil on paper, 15 x 11 inches, 2004 Private collection In the evening, the setting sun creates these brilliant pools of light in the upstairs hallway and on the stairs. I was attracted to the light on the wall at the top of the stairs and then the challenge of making all the other subtle grays that would make that patch of light seem so bright.
