Delaware River No. 1
oil on paper, 11 x 15 inches, 2005
Collection of Jean and Joe Gorman
I recently moved from teaching and working in the non-profit sector to the corporate world. I have found this
to be a world of nice office spaces and board rooms where they let me occasionally paint in my off hours.
I work on the 13th floor of a building that overlooks the Delaware River and Independence National
Park in Philadelphia. We have great uninterrupted north, west and south views of the city.
I came in on a Saturday in February and painted this view overlooking the Benjamin Franklin Bridge and the
Delaware River. The view is looking north towards Trenton, New Jersey.
The palette for this painting is predominately created in earth tones from Williamsburg Paints'
‘Italian earth series’, with the exception of cerulean blue to get the sky and that great aqua
color of bridge.
