Great Horned Coney

Woodcut print of a giant jackalope jumping over a forest stream, hind legs aloft. An inscription across the top reads "LEPUS CORNUTUS."

Woodcut on Awagami kitakata, edition of 100, 9 x 10.5 inches (22.86 x 26.76 cm)

The rare and mighty lepus cornutus — also known as the American jackalope — depicted in its native woodland habit before encroaching human settlement pushed the species further westward.

This print was designed as a sequel to “The Terrible Coney” which had been created years earlier. These designs were carved on opposite sides of the same board.
