I was invited by John Robinson, the owner of SideshowWorld.com, to create a new logo image for his website.
Because the website deals with all things related to the circus sideshow — past and present — I
decided to incorporate the quintessential sideshow attraction: a feejee mermaid. These were
taxidermy creations that enterprising showmen presented as "genuine mermaid captured in the South Seas! Alive!"
Of course, once they went into the tent, patrons found the upper remains of a monkey appended to the
lower portions of a fish — with varyng degrees of skill.
The drawing was executed with a Pigma Micron® .005 pen on a 4 x 6 inch (102 x 152 mm) block of Lana®
300-weight watercolor paper. I afterwards created a color version with watercolor pigments.
